Who is Elijah? Part 3
I had returned to my campsite after spending the weekend in New York with some old high school friends. I began writing more of the script: the main character Adelina is talking to Elijah, she has just realized something deeply troubling in her life. He understands she is lost and when she asks him where she is disgruntledly, I tried to find the perfect word to describe her state of crisis. He answered “disillusionment” I went to look up the exact definition of disillusionment to make sure it was the best fit and in the suggestions the biblical definition popped up. I clicked on it and it gave a perfectly accurate word for word definition of the emotion I was trying to depict. Just beneath the definition it listed some examples, the name Elijah happened to be mentioned in one of the examples. It was said that the prophet felt great despair after the victories he had won; that God gently met him there under a tree to correct his isolation with reality. As I planned the synopsis of this story, towards the end of the script the main character repeatedly prays under her deceased parent’s willow tree in the backyard with only this stray cat for comfort. I believe to be able to write a great story is to be able to see the truth in the world. It tells a story you couldn’t even imagine and teaches you about yourself in ways you never knew were possible.
